(618) بَابُ ذِكْرِ صَلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى الَّتِي أَمَرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِالْمُحَافَظَةِ عَلَيْهَا عَلَى التَّكْرَارِ وَالتَّأْكِيدِ بَعْدَ دُخُولِهَا فِي جُمْلَةِ الصَّلَوَاتِ الَّتِي أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِالْمُحَافَظَةِ عَلَيْهَا،
The chapter on the middle prayer that Allah commanded to maintain repeatedly and emphatically, even after it was included among the prayers to be maintained

Hadith 1335
نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى الصَّنْعَانِيُّ ، نَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ هِشَامًا ، نَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، عَنْ عَبِيدَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَوْمَ الأَحْزَابِ : " مَا لَهُمْ ؟ مَلأَ اللَّهُ قُبُورَهُمْ وَبُيُوتَهُمْ نَارًا ، كَمَا شَغَلُونَا عَنِ الصَّلاةِ الْوُسْطَى حَتَّى غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ "
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said during the Battle of Ahzab: "May Allah fill the graves and houses of those polytheists with fire, just as they kept us occupied from the middle prayer until the sun had set."
وَهَذَا مِنْ وَاوِ الْوَصْلِ الَّتِي نَقُولُ إِنَّمَا عَلَى مَعْنَى التَّكْرَارِ وَالتَّأْكِيدِ، لَا مِنْ وَاوِ الْفَصْلِ، إِذْ مُحَالٌ أَنْ تَكُونَ الصَّلَاةُ الْوُسْطَى لَيْسَتْ مِنَ الصَّلَوَاتِ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: {حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى} [البقرة: ٢٣٨] فَالصَّلَاةُ الْوُسْطَى كَانَتْ دَاخِلَةً فِي الصَّلَوَاتِ الَّتِي أَمَرَ اللَّهُ فِي أَوَّلِ الذِّكْرِ بِالْمُحَافَظَةِ عَلَيْهَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: {وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى} [البقرة: ٢٣٨] عَلَى مَعْنَى التَّكْرَارِ وَالتَّأْكِيدِ، وَقَدِ اسْتَقْصَيْتُ هَذَا الْجِنْسِ فِي كِتَابِ الْإِيمَانِ عِنْدَ ذِكْرِ اعْتِرَاضِ مَنِ اعْتَرَضَ عَلَيْنَا فَادَّعَى أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ فَرَّقَ بَيْنَ الْإِيمَانِ وَالْأَعْمَالِ الصَّالِحَةِ بِوَاوِ اسْتِئْنَافٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: {وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ} [البقرة: ٨٢]
And this is from the connecting waw (waaw al-wasl) which we say is only for the meaning of repetition and emphasis, not from the separating waw (waaw al-fasl), since it is impossible that the middle prayer is not among the prayers. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: {حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى} [البقرة: ٢٣٨] So the middle prayer was included among the prayers which Allah commanded at the beginning of the mention to be maintained, then He said: {وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى} [البقرة: ٢٣٨] for the meaning of repetition and emphasis. I have thoroughly discussed this type in the Book of Faith when mentioning the objection of those who objected to us and claimed that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has separated between faith and righteous deeds with a waw of initiation in His saying: {وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ} [البقرة: ٨٢]
Hadith 1335

Hadith 1336
نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ زِرٍّ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ : " مَلأَ اللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمْ وَقُبُورَهُمْ نَارًا كَمَا شَغَلُونَا عَنْ صَلاةِ الْوُسْطَى "
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of the Battle of the Trench: "May Allah fill the hearts and graves of these disbelievers with fire, just as they kept us occupied from the middle prayer."
Hadith 1337
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا سَلْمُ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ شُتَيْرِ بْنِ شَكَلٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " شَغَلُونَا عَنْ صَلاةِ الْوُسْطَى صَلاةِ الْعَصْرِ ، مَلأَ اللَّهُ قُبُورَهُمْ ، أَوْ قَالَ : بُيُوتَهُمْ نَارًا " ، وَقَالَ الأَشَجُّ : " بُيُوتَهُمْ وَقُبُورَهُمْ نَارًا ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بَيْنَ الْعِشَاءَيْنِ " ، زَادَ سَلْمٌ : " بَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ "
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Those disbelievers kept us occupied from the middle prayer, the Asr prayer. May Allah fill their graves or, he said, their houses with fire." In the narration of Al-Ashajj, it is: "May He fill their houses and their graves with fire." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed (the Asr prayer) between the two night prayers. Janab Salm has added these words: "(He performed) the Asr prayer between Maghrib and Isha."
Hadith 1338
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ ، نَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الصَّلاةُ الْوُسْطَى صَلاةُ الْعَصْرِ "
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The middle prayer is the Asr prayer."
