(554) بَابُ اسْتِحْبَابِ مَسْأَلَةِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي صَلَاةِ الضُّحَى رَجَاءَ الْإِجَابَةِ
The chapter on the recommendation to ask Allah in Duha prayer, hoping for a response
Hadith 1228
نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، نَا عَمِّي ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ بُكَيْرٍ ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ الْقُرَشِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ الْبَرْقِيُّ ، نَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، نَا بَكْرُ بْنُ مُضَرَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ الأَشَجِّ ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْقُرَشِيِّ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ صَلَّى سُبْحَةَ الضُّحَى ثَمَانِ رَكَعَاتٍ ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ ، قَالَ : " إِنِّي صَلَّيْتُ صَلاةَ رَغْبَةٍ وَرَهْبَةٍ ، فَسَأَلْتُ رَبِّي ثَلاثًا فَأَعْطَانِي اثْنَتَيْنِ ، وَمَنَعَنِي وَاحِدَةً ، سَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لا يَقْتُلَ أُمَّتِي بِالسِّنِينَ فَفَعَلَ ، وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لا يُظْهِرَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَدُوًّا فَفَعَلَ ، وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لا يَلْبِسَهُمْ شِيَعًا فَأَبَى عَلَيَّ " قَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : " أَنْ لا يَبْتَلِيَ أُمَّتِي بِالسِّنِينَ "
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performing eight rak‘ahs of the Duha prayer during a journey. When he completed the prayer and turned (to us), he said: "I have performed this prayer out of fear and hope. I asked my Lord for three things—He granted me two and withheld one. The first thing I asked was that Allah not destroy my Ummah through famine; Allah accepted this supplication. The second thing I asked my Lord was that He not give dominance over my Ummah to their enemies; Allah did so (i.e., accepted the supplication). The third thing I asked was that Allah not divide them into different sects, but this was denied to me by Allah." The words of Ahmad bin Abdur Rahman are: "O Allah, do not test my Ummah with famine."
