(502) بَابُ فَضْلِ طُولِ الْقِيَامِ فِي صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ وَغَيْرِهِ
The chapter on the virtue of long standing in night prayer and other prayers
Hadith 1154
حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، نَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُوسَى ، وَيَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ : " صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَفِي حَدِيثِ الثَّوْرِيِّ : ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ ، وَقَالُوا : فَأَطَالَ حَتَّى هَمَمْتُ بِأَمْرِ سَوْءٍ " ، قِيلَ : وَمَا هَمَمْتُ ؟ قَالَ : " هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَجْلِسَ وَأَدَعَهُ "
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that one night I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he stood for a long time (and recited at length) until I intended to do a bad deed. He was asked, "What did you intend?" He replied, "I intended to sit down and leave the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Hadith 1155
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هَاشِمٍ زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، نَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، وَيَعْلَى ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا سَلْمُ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ بِسْطَامٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَنَفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ مِغْوَلٍ ، قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنِي الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيُّ الصَّلاةِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ قَالَ : " طُولُ الْقُنُوتِ "
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that it was asked from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Which prayer is the most virtuous and superior?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "The one with long and lengthy standing (qiyam)."
