جماع أبواب صلاة التطوع بالليلChapters on Night Voluntary Prayers
(494) بَابُ فَضْلِ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ وَقَبْلَ السُّدُسِ الْآخِرِ
The chapter on the virtue of night prayer before the last sixth of the night
Hadith 1145
نَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعَتْهُ مِنْ عَمْرٍو مُنْذُ سَبْعِينَ سَنَةً ، يَقُولُ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ أَوْسٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ يُخْبِرُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " أَحَبُّ الصَّلاةِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صَلاةُ دَاوُدَ كَانَ يَنَامُ نِصْفَ اللَّيْلِ ، وَيَقُومُ ثُلُثَ اللَّيْلِ ، وَيَنَامُ سُدُسَهُ ، وَأَحَبُّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ ، كَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا "
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "The most beloved prayer to Allah Almighty is the prayer of Dawud (peace be upon him); he would sleep for half the night, pray for a third of the night, and then sleep for a sixth of the night (the last part). And the most beloved fast to Allah Almighty is the fast of Dawud (peace be upon him); he would fast one day and break his fast the next day."
