Hadith 1139
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) at night and said to us: "Get up, perform prayer." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to his house. When some more of the night had passed, he (peace and blessings be upon him) returned and, not hearing any movement from us, said: "Get up, perform prayer." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I got up and, rubbing my eyes, said: O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, we will only pray that prayer which Allah has written for us in our destiny. Indeed, our souls are in Allah's hand; whenever He wishes to raise us, He will raise us. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned back, striking his thigh with his hand, and was saying: "We will only pray that prayer which Allah has written for us in our destiny." « وَكَانَ الْإِنسَانُ أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلًا » [ سورہ الکھف : 54 ] "And man is, ever, more quarrelsome than anything."
Hadith 1140
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and Fatimah at night and said: "Why do you not pray (the Tahajjud prayer)?" I replied, O Messenger of Allah, surely our souls are in the hand of Allah, so if He wills to raise us, He will raise us. Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned back and did not reply to me. Then I heard him, as he was turning away, striking his thigh with his hand and saying - « وَكَانَ الْإِنسَانُ أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلًا » [ سورہ الکھف : 54 ] "And man is ever more quarrelsome than anything."
