(485) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الْبَيَانِ عَلَى أَنَّ صَلَاةَ اللَّيْلِ أَفْضَلُ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْفَرِيضَةِ
The chapter clarifying that night prayer is the best prayer after obligatory prayer
Hadith 1134
حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلَكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَرْفَعُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَقَالَ يُوسُفُ : يَرْفَعُهُ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ أَيُّ صَلاةٍ أَفْضَلُ بَعْدَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ ؟ وَأَيُّ الصِّيَامِ أَفْضَلُ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ؟ فَقَالَ : " أَفْضَلُ الصَّلاةِ بَعْدَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ الصَّلاةُ في جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ ، وَأَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ "
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates a marfu’ hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he was asked: Which prayer is the best and most superior after the obligatory prayers, and which fasts are the best after the fasts of Ramadan? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “The most superior prayer after the obligatory prayers is to pray in the middle of the night, and the most superior fasts after the fasts of Ramadan are those of Allah’s month, Muharram.”
