جماع أبواب الركعتين قبل الفجر وما فيها من السننChapters on Two Rak‘ahs before Fajr and their Sunnahs
(466) بَابٌ الْأَمْرُ بِالرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ أَمْرُ نَدْبٍ وَاسْتِحْبَابٍ لَا أَمْرُ فَرِيضَةٍ وَإِيجَابٍ
The chapter on the command to pray the two units before Fajr as a recommendation, not an obligation
Hadith 1110
نَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ ، نَا مَرْحُومٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ بَيْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَبَيْنَ أَعْرَابِيٍّ لَيْلَةً ، فَقَالَ الأَعْرَابِيُّ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، كَيْفَ صَلاةُ اللَّيْلِ ؟ فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَثْنَى مَثْنَى ، فَإِذَا خَشِيتَ الصُّبْحَ فَاسْجُدْ سَجْدَةً ، وَاسْجُدْ سَجْدَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ صَلاةِ الْغَدَاةِ "
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that one night I was present between the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and a Bedouin. The Bedouin asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the method of the night prayer?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "It is two rak‘ahs at a time. Then when you fear that morning is near, pray one rak‘ah (witr). And perform two rak‘ahs before the morning prayer."
