جماع أبواب ذكر الوتر وما فيه من السننChapters on Witr and its Sunnahs
(462) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ الصَّلَاةَ بَعْدَ الْوِتْرِ مُبَاحَةٌ لِجَمِيعِ مَنْ يُرِيدُ الصَّلَاةَ بَعْدَهُ،
The chapter on the evidence that praying after Witr is allowed for anyone who wishes to pray after it
Hadith 1106
نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، نَا عَمِّي ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ هَذَا السَّفَرَ جَهْدٌ وَثِقَلٌ ، فَإِذَا أَوْتَرَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَإِنِ اسْتَيْقَظَ ، وَإِلا كَانَتَا لَهُ "
The freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that we were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He (ﷺ) said: "Indeed, this journey is a cause of hardship and fatigue, so when any one of you has prayed Witr, let him (also) pray two (additional) rak‘ahs. Then if he wakes up (for Tahajjud, it is better), otherwise those two rak‘ahs will suffice for him."
