جماع أبواب ذكر الوتر وما فيه من السننChapters on Witr and its Sunnahs
(450) بَابُ إِبَاحَةِ الْوِتْرِ أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ إِنْ أَحَبَّ الْمُصَلِّي أَوْ وَسَطَهُ أَوْ آخِرَهُ، إِذِ اللَّيْلُ بَعْدَ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ إِلَى طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ كُلُّهُ وَقْتُ الْوِتْرِ
The chapter on the permissibility of praying Witr at the beginning, middle, or end of the night, as the night after Isha until Fajr is all Witr time
Hadith 1080
نَا بُنْدَارٌ ، نَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ ، نَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ضَمْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " مِنْ كُلِّ اللَّيْلِ أَوْتَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِنْ أَوَّلِهِ وَأَوْسَطِهِ وَآخِرِهِ "
Sayyiduna Ali narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has performed Witr in every part of the night: in the early part of the night, in the middle of the night, and also in the last part of the night.
Hadith 1081
نَا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، نَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي قَيْسٍ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوتِرُ ، آخِرَ اللَّيْلِ أَوْ أَوَّلَهُ ؟ قَالَتْ : كُلُّ ذَلِكَ قَدْ كَانَ يَفْعَلُ ، رُبَّمَا " أَوْتَرَ أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ وَرُبَّمَا أَوْتَرَ مِنْ آخِرِهِ ، فَقُلْتُ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الأَمْرِ سَعَةً "
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Qais narrates that he asked the noble wife of the Prophet, Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform Witr—did he offer it at the end of the night or at the beginning of the night? She replied that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer it in every part. Sometimes he would offer it at the beginning of the night, and sometimes he would perform it in the last part of the night. So I said, all praise is due to Allah who has placed ease and flexibility in this matter.
