Hazrat Urwah bin Ruwaym narrates from Ibn Daylami, who lived in Bayt al-Maqdis, that he stayed in Madinah Munawwarah in search of (and to meet) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (may Allah be pleased with him). When he inquired about Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), people informed him that he had departed for Makkah Mukarramah. He followed after him but found out that he had gone to Ta’if, so he went after him (to Ta’if) and saw him walking in a field holding the hand of a Qurayshi man, about whom it was suspected that he was a drunkard. When I met him, I greeted him with salam, and he returned my salam and asked, “What has brought you here today and where have you come from?” I informed him (that I had come from Madinah to meet you). Then I asked him, “O Abdullah bin Amr, have you heard any command from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding drinking wine?” He said, “Yes.” The Qurayshi man withdrew his hand and left. He (Abdullah bin Amr) said, “I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘Whoever from my Ummah drinks wine, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days.’”
