(327) بَابُ الرُّخْصَةِ فِي بَصْقِ الْمُصَلِّي عَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَوْ تَحْتَ قَدَمِهِ الْيُسْرَى
327 Chapter: Permission for the Worshipper to Spit to His Left or Under His Left Foot.
Hadith 874
نَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبْصَرَ نُخَامَةً فِي قِبْلَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَحَكَّهَا بِحَصَاةٍ ، وَنَهَى أَنْ يَبْزُقَ الرَّجُلُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، وَعَنْ يَمِينِهِ ، وَقَالَ : " لِيَبْزُقْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ أَوْ تَحْتَ قَدَمِهِ الْيُسْرَى "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw phlegm towards the qiblah of the mosque, so he rubbed it and cleaned it with a pebble. And he forbade a person from spitting to his right side or in front of him (during prayer). And he said: "He should spit to his left side or under his left foot (on the unpaved ground)."
Hadith 875
نَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، وَأَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، يَقُولانِ : قَدْ رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نُخَامَةً فِي الْقِبْلَةِ ، فَتَنَاوَلَ حَصَاةً ، فَحَكَّهَا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " لا يَنْتَخِمَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الْقِبْلَةِ ، وَلا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ ، وَلْيَبْصُقْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ، أَوْ تَحْتَ رِجْلِهِ الْيُسْرَى "
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah and Abu Sa‘id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with them) narrate that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saw phlegm towards the direction of the Qiblah, so he scraped it off and cleaned it with a pebble. Then he said: "None of you should ever spit phlegm facing the Qiblah or to his right side, and he should spit to his left side or under his left foot (when necessary)."
