Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As narrates that Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), teach me a supplication which I may recite in my prayer and in my home." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite this supplication « اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًا كَبِيرًا وَلَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ، وَارْحَمْنِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ » 'O Allah, indeed I have wronged myself greatly, and there is none who forgives sins except You, so grant me forgiveness and mercy from Yourself, surely You are the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.'"
Hadith 847
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when Surah « إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ », that is, Surah An-Nasr, was revealed in its entirety, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting this tasbih in every prayer: « سُبْحَانَكَ اللّٰهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ اللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْلِي » "O Allah, You are Pure with Your praises, O Allah, forgive me."
Hadith 848
Hazrat Abu Malik Ashja'i narrates from his esteemed father, who says that we used to present ourselves before the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in the morning. Men and women would come and ask, "O Messenger of Allah, when I pray, how should I supplicate?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Supplicate in this way « اللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْلِي، وَارْحَمْنِي، وَاهْدِنِي، وَعَافِنِي، وَارْزُقْنِي » 'O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, grant me well-being, and provide for me.' Then all the good of your world and Hereafter will be gathered for you."
