(268) بَابُ الرُّخْصَةِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ مَحْلُولَ الْأَزْرَارِ إِذَا كَانَ عَلَى الْمُصَلِّي أَكْثَرُ مِنْ ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ
268 Chapter: Permission to Pray with Unbuttoned Garments if Wearing More Than One.
Hadith 779
نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، نا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، نا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ " يُصَلِّي مَحْلُولٌ أَزْرَارُهُ " ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَفْعَلُهُ "
Sayyiduna Zaid bin Aslam narrates that I saw Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) praying with his button open, so I asked him about this, and he replied that he had seen the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) doing so.
Hadith 780
نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ ، بِهَذَا مِثْلَهُ ، غَيْرُ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَقُلْ : فَسَأَلْتُهُ ، وَقَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُصَلِّي مَحْلُولَ الأَزْرَارِ "
The Imam, through his esteemed teacher Muhammad bin Yahya’s chain of narration, reports from Walid in a manner similar to the above. However, he did not mention the words that I asked him and said that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) praying with his button undone.
