Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked a man: "What do you recite in prayer?" He replied, "I recite the Tashahhud, then I make this supplication, « اللّهُـمَّ إِنِّـي أَسْأَلُـكَ الجَـنَّةَ وأََعوذُ بِـكَ مِـنَ الـنّار » 'O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and seek refuge with You from the Fire of Hell.'" (Then that man said) "By Allah, I do not know how to hum like you or like Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him)" (i.e., I do not know comprehensive supplications like you). So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We also hum around these two things" (i.e., we also ask Allah for these two supplications). Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) said that by 'dandana' is meant speech that cannot be understood.
