(169) بَابُ تَرْكِ الْقُنُوتِ عِنْدَ زَوَالِ الْحَادِثَةِ الَّتِي لَهَا يَقْنُتُ،
Chapter 169: Leaving Qunoot when the incident for which it was performed ends
Hadith Q621
وَالدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا تَرَكَ الْقُنُوتَ بَعْدَ شَهْرٍ لِزَوَالِ تِلْكَ الْحَادِثَةِ الَّتِي كَانَ لَهَا يَقْنُتُ، لَا نَسْخًا لِلْقُنُوتِ، وَلَا كَمَا تَوَهَّمَ مَنْ قَالَ إِنَّهُ لَا يَقْنُتُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ شَهْرٍ.
And the explanation of the evidence that the Prophet ﷺ stopped performing Qunoot after one month when the calamity for which he was performing Qunoot had ended. He did not stop due to the abrogation of Qunoot, nor because of the opinion held by some people that performing Qunoot for more than one month is not permissible.
Hadith 621
نا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ ، نا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَمْرٍو الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَنَتَ فِي صَلاةٍ شَهْرًا ، يَقُولُ فِي قُنُوتِهِ : " اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينِ ، اللَّهُمَّ اشْدُدْ وَطْأَتَكَ عَلَى مُضَرَ ، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سِنِينَ كَسِنِي يُوسُفَ " . قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ : فَأَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَلَمْ يَدْعُ لَهُمْ ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " أَوَ مَا تَرَاهُمْ قَدْ قَدِمُوا ؟ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited Qunoot Nazilah in prayer for a month. In his supplication, he would say, «اللهمَّ أَنْجِ عَيَّاش بن أبي ربيعة، اللهمَّ أَنْجِ سَلَمَة بنَ هشام، اللهم أَنْجِ الوليد بن الوليد، اللهم أَنْجِ المستضعفين من المؤمنين، اللهمَّ اشْدُدْ وَطْأَتَك على مُضَر، اللهمَّ اجعلها سنين كسِنِي يوسف » "O Allah, grant salvation to Walid bin Walid. O Allah, grant freedom to Salamah bin Hisham. O Allah, grant liberty to 'Ayyash bin Abi Rabi'ah. O Allah, grant deliverance to the weak believers. O Allah, send Your severe punishment upon Mudar. O Allah, impose upon them a famine like the famine during the time of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him)." Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that one morning the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not supplicate for them, so I reminded him. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Did you not see that they (after gaining freedom) have come (therefore, there is no longer a need for Qunoot)?"
