Hadith Q503
Contrary to the claim of those who say that a person offering Zuhr or Asr prayer has the choice in the last two rak‘ahs to either recite Surah Al-Fatihah or keep saying Subhan Allah, and contrary to the assumption of those who say that in the last two rak‘ahs of these two prayers he should only say Subhan Allah and not recite (any surah) in them—this statement is against the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. Allah Almighty has made the Noble Prophet ﷺ responsible for explaining and clarifying the Furqan Hameed revealed to him, and has given him the duty of teaching his ummah their prayers.

Hadith 503
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah narrates from his respected father, Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-Fatihah and another Surah in the first two rak'ahs of Zuhr and Asr prayers, and in the last two rak'ahs he used to recite only Surah Al-Fatihah. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that for a long time I used to think that regarding the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah in the last two rak'ahs of Zuhr and Asr prayers, only Aban bin Yazid and Hammam bin Yahya narrated this hadith, as I used to hear from my hadith companions. Then I came to know that the great Imam Awza'i (may Allah have mercy on him) has also mentioned this addition in his narration.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah narrates from his noble father, Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to lead us in the Zuhr and Asr prayers, and in the first two rak‘ahs he would recite Surah Al-Fatihah along with another surah. In the last two rak‘ahs, he would recite only Surah Al-Fatihah. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make the first rak‘ah long, and sometimes he would let us hear one or two verses.
