Chapter 75: What to say upon reaching the row before the opening takbir
Hadith 453
نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ ، نا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ يَعْنِي الدَّرَاوَرْدِيَّ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ عَايِذٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ سَعْدٍ : أَنَّ رَجُلا جَاءَ إِلَى الصَّلاةِ ، وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي بِنَا ، فَقَالَ حِينَ انْتَهَى إِلَى الصَّفِّ : اللَّهُمَّ ائْتِنِي أَفْضَلَ مَا تُؤْتِي عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الصَّلاةَ قَالَ : " مَنِ الْمُتَكَلِّمُ آنِفًا ؟ " ، قَالَ الرَّجُلُ : أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذًا تَعْقِرُ جَوَادَكَ وَتُسْتَشْهَدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came for prayer while the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was leading us in prayer. When he reached the row, he made this supplication, « اللَّهُمَّ آتِنِي أَفْضَلَ مَا تُؤْتِيعِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ » “O Allah, grant me a rank better than what You will grant to Your righteous servants.” Then when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) completed the prayer, he asked: “Who was speaking just now?” That person replied, “O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), it was me.” So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Then the legs of your fine horse will be cut off and you will be martyred in the way of Allah.”
