Chapter 26: Dislike of sleeping before Isha and talking after it, with a general report
Hadith 346
نا بُنْدَارٌ ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، نا عَوْفٌ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا بُنْدَارٌ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَعَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ ، عَنْ عَوْفٍ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، وَعَبَّادُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ ، وَابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا عَوْفٌ ، عَنْ سَيَّارِ بْنِ سَلامَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَكْرَهُ النَّوْمَ قَبْلَ الْعِشَاءِ ، وَالْحَدِيثَ بَعْدَهَا " . هَذَا حَدِيثُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مَنِيعٍ وَفِي حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا وَفِي حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارُ بْنُ سَلامَةَ أَبُو الْمِنْهَالِ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَلَى أَبِي بَرْزَةَ الأَسْلَمِيِّ ، فَسَأَلَهُ أَبِي : كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي الْمَكْتُوبَةَ ؟ قَالَ : " كَانَ يَسْتَحِبُّ أَنْ يُؤَخِّرَ الْعِشَاءَ الَّتِي تَدْعُونَهَا الْعَتَمَةَ ، وَكَانَ يَكْرَهُ النَّوْمَ قَبْلَهَا ، وَالْحَدِيثَ بَعْدَهَا " . وَفِي حَدِيثِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَعَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمِنْهَالِ ، وَمَتْنُ حَدِيثِهِمَا مِثْلُ مَتْنِ حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى
Sayyiduna Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked sleeping before the ‘Isha prayer and talking after it. This is the hadith of Ahmad bin Mani’. In the narration of Yahya bin Sa‘id, he says that Abu Minhal Siyār bin Salamah narrated to us that I was present with my father before Sayyiduna Abu Barzah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him), so my father asked him, “How did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform the obligatory prayers?” He replied, “He (peace and blessings be upon him) liked to delay the ‘Isha prayer, which you call ‘Atamah. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked sleeping before ‘Isha and talking after it.” In the narration of Muhammad bin Ja‘far and ‘Abd al-Wahhab, « عَنْ اَبِی الْمِنْھَالِ » is present, while the text is similar to the narration of Yahya.
