Chapter 19: Warning against delaying Asr until the sun yellows

3 hadith
Hadith Q333
And the explanation of the evidence that in the hadith of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, the statement of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, "Then when you have performed the Asr prayer, its time remains until the sun becomes yellow," by this, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, meant the time of Asr prayer for one who has an excuse, necessity, or forgets, that if he remembers before the sun becomes yellow or when it becomes yellow, then he should perform the prayer. Similarly, by his statement, "Whoever catches one rak'ah of the Asr prayer before the sun sets, he has caught it completely," he meant that this is the time for one who has an excuse, necessity, or forgets the Asr prayer, that when he remembers, if it is possible for him to perform one rak'ah before the sun sets, then he should perform it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not mean that he has made it permissible for one without any excuse, necessity, or who remembers the Asr prayer, to delay the Asr prayer until the sun becomes yellow or to perform one rak'ah before the sun sets and the remaining three rak'ahs after sunset.

Hadith 333
Alā’ bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān bin Ya‘qūb narrates that after performing the Ẓuhr prayer, he came to Anas bin Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) at his house in Basrah, and his house was beside the mosque. When we presented ourselves before him, he said, “Have you performed the ‘Aṣr prayer?” We replied, “We have just come after performing the Ẓuhr prayer.” He said, “Perform the ‘Aṣr prayer.” So we stood up and performed the (‘Aṣr) prayer. When we finished (the prayer), he said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘This is the prayer of the hypocrite. He sits waiting for the sun, until when it is between the two horns of Satan, he stands and pecks out four (rak‘ahs) quickly, and in it he remembers Allah very little.’” The Imam also narrates from his teacher Yūnus bin ‘Abd al-A‘lā, from Alā’ bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān himself, the above narration in a similar manner.

Hadith 334
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, this is the prayer of the hypocrite. He keeps waiting until the sun becomes yellow and is between the two horns of Satan or upon the two horns of Satan, then he stands up and pecks out four pecks, and in it he remembers Allah very little." These are the words of the hadith of Abu Musa. In the narration of Ibn Buzaygh, it is: between the two horns of Satan or in the two horns of Satan, and Shu’bah said: he pecks out four pecks and in it he remembers Allah very little.
