(6) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ إِقَامَ الصَّلَاةِ مِنَ الْإِسْلَامِ " إِذِ الْإِيمَانُ وَالْإِسْلَامُ اسْمَانِ بِمَعْنًى وَاحِدٍ
Chapter 6: Evidence that establishing prayer is part of Islam, as faith and Islam are synonymous
Hadith Q308
إِذِ الْإِيمَانُ وَالْإِسْلَامُ إسْمَانِ بِمَعْنًى وَاحِدٍ» خَبَرُ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فِي مَسْأَلَةِ جِبْرِيلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْإِسْلَامِ قَدْ أَمْلَيْتُهُ فِي كِتَابِ الطَّهَارَةِ.
I have dictated the hadith of Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding Jibreel (peace be upon him) asking the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about Islam, in the Book of Purification.
Hadith 308
نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، نا رَوْحُ بْنُ عِبَادَةَ ، عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ ، يُحَدِّثُ طَاوُسًا ، أَنَّ رَجُلا قَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ : أَلا تَغْزُو ؟ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ : إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " بُنِيَ الإِسْلامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ : شَهَادَةُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَإِقَامُ الصَّلاةِ ، وَإِيتَاءُ الزَّكَاةِ ، وَصِيَامُ رَمَضَانَ ، وَحَجُّ الْبَيْتِ "
Hazrat Ikrimah bin Khalid bin As narrates to Sayyiduna Tawus that a man said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), "Will you not perform Jihad?" So Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, "Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Islam is built upon five things: bearing witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, establishing prayer, giving zakat, fasting in Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the House of Allah.'"
Hadith 309
نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ ، نا أَبُو النَّضْرِ ، نا عَاصِمٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " بُنِيَ الإِسْلامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ : شَهَادَةُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، وَإِقَامُ الصَّلاةِ ، وَإِيتَاءُ الزَّكَاةِ ، وَحَجُّ الْبَيْتِ ، وَصَوْمُ رَمَضَانَ " . نا بِهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، نا عَاصِمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنِي وَاقِدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : بِمِثْلِهِ . قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : خَرَّجْتُ طُرُقَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ فِي كِتَابِ الإِيمَانِ
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "Islam is built upon five things: bearing witness that there is no true deity except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, establishing prayer, giving zakat, performing Hajj to the Sacred House, and fasting in the blessed month of Ramadan." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his teacher Muhammad bin Yahya, with his chain, from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, and narrated as in the aforementioned narration. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I have mentioned the chains of this hadith in the Book of Faith.
