It is narrated from Hazrat Hamzah bin Abdullah bin Umar that he states that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say loudly in the mosque: "Refrain from useless talk in the mosque." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: "I used to spend the night in the mosque during the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), even though I was a young unmarried man. And dogs used to urinate in the mosque and would come and go in the mosque, and (the companions) would not sprinkle water because of this." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: "(The meaning of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, is) that the dogs used to urinate outside the mosque, and after urinating, they would roam around in the mosque."
