It is narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) that a woman asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) about menstrual blood that gets on clothes. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Scrape it off, then rub it with water, then sprinkle water on it." This is the narration of Hammad. In the narration of Ibn Uyaynah, it is: « ثُمَّرُشِّيَوَصَلِّيفِيْهِ » "Then sprinkle water on it and pray in it." In the narration of Yahya, it is: « ثُمَّتَنْضَحِيْهِوَتُصَلِّيْفِيْهِ » "Then wash it and pray in it." The rest of the narrators did not mention sprinkling or washing; they only mentioned scraping, rubbing with water, and then praying in that garment. Whereas in the narration of Waki', it is: « وُحُتِّيْهِثُمَّاقْرُصِيْهِبِالْمَاءِ » "And scrape it off, then rub it with water." No further words are mentioned.
