(209) بَابُ النَّفْخِ فِي الْيَدَيْنِ بَعْدَ ضَرْبِهِمَا عَلَى التُّرَابِ لِلتَّيَمُّمِ
Chapter 209: Blowing into the hands after striking them on the earth for tayammum
Hadith 268
حَدَّثَنَا بُنْدَارٌ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، نا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ ذَرٍّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا أَتَى عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي أَجْنَبْتُ فَلَمْ أَجِدِ الْمَاءَ ؟ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : لا تُصَلِّ ، فَقَالَ عَمَّارٌ : أَمَا تَذْكُرُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذْ أَنَا وَأَنْتَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ فَأَجْنَبْنَا ، فَلَمْ نَجْدِ الْمَاءَ ، فَأَمَّا أَنْتَ فَلَمْ تُصَلِّ ، وَأَمَّا أَنَا فَتَمَعَّكْتُ فِي التُّرَابِ فَصَلَّيْتُ ، فَلَمَّا أَتَيْنَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّمَا كَانَ يَكْفِيكَ " ، " وَضَرَبَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى الأَرْضِ ، ثُمَّ نَفَخَ فِيهَا ، وَمَسَحَ بِهِمَا وَجْهَهُ وَكَفَّيْهِ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abzi (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "I have become junub (in a state of major ritual impurity) and I have not found water (so what should I do?)" Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Do not pray (rather wait until you find water)." Then Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Commander of the Faithful, do you not remember when you and I were in a military expedition and we both became junub and did not find water? So you did not pray, while I rolled in the earth and then prayed. Then when we came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I mentioned this incident to him. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'It would have been sufficient for you to do this.' And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck his hand on the earth, then blew on it, and wiped his face and both hands with it."
