(201) بَابُ اسْتِحْبَابِ اغْتِسَالِ الْجُنُبِ لِلنَّوْمِ.
Chapter 201: Recommendation for one in major impurity to bathe before sleeping
Hadith 259
نا بُنْدَارٌ ، نا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، نا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَيْسٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ رَضِي اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهَا : كَيْفَ كَانَ نَوْمُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْجَنَابَةِ ؟ فَقَالَتْ : " كُلُّ ذَلِكَ كَانَ يَفْعَلُ : رُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ فَنَامَ ، وَرُبَّمَا تَوَضَّأَ فَنَامَ " . نَاهُ نَصْرُ بْنُ بَحْرٍ الْخَوْلانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي قَيْسٍ حَدَّثَهُ ، بِمِثْلِهِ ، وَقَالَ : " رُبَّمَا تَوَضَّأَ وَنَامَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ " ، فَقُلْتُ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الأَمْرِ سَعَةً
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that I asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sleep in the state of janabah (major ritual impurity)? She replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did both ways: sometimes he would perform ghusl (ritual bath) and then sleep, and sometimes he would perform wudu (ablution) and then sleep. The Imam narrates from his teacher Nasr bin Bahr Khawlani from Hazrat Abd bin Abi Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said, sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform wudu and sleep before performing ghusl. So I said, all praise is due to Allah who has placed ease and flexibility in this matter.
