Chapter 91: Evidence that specifying a mudd of water for ablution is sufficient

2 hadith
Hadith Q117
This does not mean that one cannot use less or more than a mudd of water for ablution. Because if it were not permissible to decrease or increase from a mudd of water, then it would become necessary for the person performing ablution to measure a mudd of water before ablution, and then perform ablution in such a way that nothing remains. Whereas sometimes the person performing ablution uses a little water carefully, and it is sufficient for washing the limbs of ablution, and sometimes more water is used carelessly, and it becomes insufficient for washing the limbs of ablution.

Hadith 117
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A mudd (of water) is sufficient for ablution (wudu) and a sa’ (of water) is sufficient for (ritual) bath (ghusl) from janabah." A man said to him, "O Jabir, this amount (of water) is not enough for us." So he replied, "A person better, superior, and with more hair than you (the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) found this amount of water sufficient." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that in the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "A mudd is sufficient for ablution," there is evidence that specifying a mudd as the amount for ablution means that this amount is sufficient. It does not mean that it is not permissible to use less or more than this amount.
