It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We used to pray with the Prophet (peace be upon him) and would not perform ablution after treading on filth. The wording of the narration from Makhzumi is: We used to perform ablution with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), but would not perform (another) ablution after treading on filth. In the narration of Zubri, it is: We used to be with the Prophet (peace be upon him), and would not perform ablution after treading on filth. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: There is a defect in this hadith, (that is) A‘mash did not hear this hadith from Shaqiq; I did not realize this at the time, (meaning this defect was hidden from me at the time of narration). There is another narration from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) with the wording: In prayer, we would not gather our hair and clothes (we would not hold them, but rather let them touch the ground during prostration), nor would we perform ablution after treading on filth.
