(24) بَابُ الْأَمْرِ بِالْوُضُوءِ مِنْ أَكْلِ لُحُومِ الْإِبِلِ
Chapter on the command to perform ablution after eating camel meat
Hadith 31
حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ: " إِنْ شِئْتَ فَتَوَضَّأْ ، وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَلا تَتَوَضَّأْ " . قَالَ: أَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِ الإِبِلِ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ ، فَأَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِ الإِبِلِ " . قَالَ: أُصَلِّي فِي مَرَابِطِ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ " . قَالَ: أُصَلِّي فِي مَبَارِكِ الإِبِلِ؟ قَالَ: " لا " . قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: لَمْ نَرَى خِلافًا بَيْنَ عُلَمَاءِ أَهْلِ الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ صَحِيحٌ مِنْ جِهَةِ النَّقْلِ ، وَرَوَى هَذَا الْخَبَرَ أَيْضًا: عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ ، أَشْعَثُ بْنُ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ ، وَسَمَّاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، فَهَؤُلاءِ ثَلاثَةٌ مِنْ أَجِلَّةِ رُوَاةِ الْحَدِيثِ قَدْ رَوَوْا عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah, should I perform ablution after eating goat meat?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: "If you wish, perform ablution, and if you wish, do not perform ablution." He then asked: "Should I perform ablution after eating camel meat?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: "Yes, perform ablution after eating camel meat." He asked: "May I pray in sheep pens?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: "Yes (you may pray)." He then asked: "May I pray in camel enclosures?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: "No." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: We do not know of any disagreement among the scholars of Ahl al-Hadith regarding the authenticity of this narration in terms of transmission. This narration has also been reported by Ja'far bin Abu Thawr from Ash'ath bin Abu Sha'tha' al-Maharibi and Simak bin Harb. Thus, these three prominent narrators have narrated this hadith from Ja'far bin Abu Thawr. (That is, Uthman bin Abdullah, Ash'ath, and Simak have narrated this narration.)
Hadith 32
وَقَدْ حَدَّثَنَا أَيْضًا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَاضِرٌ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ الرَّازِيُّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " أُصَلِّي فِي مَبَارِكِ الإِبِلِ ؟ قَالَ : " لا " ، قَالَ : أَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِهَا ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ " ، قَالَ : أُصَلِّي فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ " ، قَالَ : أَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِهَا ؟ قَالَ : " لا " . قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : وَلَمْ نَرَ خِلافًا بَيْنَ عُلَمَاءِ أَهْلِ الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ أَيْضًا صَحِيحٌ مِنْ جِهَةِ النَّقْلِ لِعَدَالَةِ نَاقِلِيهِ
Sayyiduna Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked, “May I pray in the enclosures of camels?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “No.” He asked, “Should I perform ablution after eating their meat?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “Yes.” He then asked, “May I pray in the enclosures of goats?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “Yes (you may pray).” He asked, “Should I perform ablution after eating goat meat?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “No.” Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that we do not know of any difference among the scholars of Ahl al-Hadith that this hadith is also authentic in terms of transmission, because its narrators are trustworthy.
