(421) بَابُ ذِكْرِ عَدَدِ حِجَجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَNumber of times the Prophet performed Hajj.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ الْقَطَوَانِيُّ رَاهِبُ الْكُوفَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الصَّدَفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَجَّ ثَلاثَ حِجَجٍ ، حَجَّتَيْنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُهَاجِرَ ، وَحَجَّةً بَعْدَمَا هَاجَرَ مَعَهَا عُمْرَةٌ " ، وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَحَجَّةً قَرَنَ مَعَهَا عُمْرَةً
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed three Hajj: two before the migration and one Hajj after the migration, and with it was also an Umrah. In the narration of Ahmad bin Yahya, it is mentioned: and one was that Hajj in which you combined Umrah with it (and it was performed after the migration to Madinah).
وَالدَّلِيلُ عَلَى ضِدِّ مَا تَوَهَّمَهُ الْعَامَّةُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَحُجِّ إِلَّا حَجَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا حَجَّ حَجَّةً وَاحِدَةً بَعْدَ هِجْرَتِهِ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، فَأَمَّا مَا قَبْلَ الْهِجْرَةِ فَقَدَ حَجَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَيْرَ تِلْكَ الْحَجَّةِ الَّتِي حَجَّهَا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ
And the evidence against what the common people have imagined is that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not perform Hajj except one Hajj, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, only performed one Hajj after his migration to al-Madinah. As for before the migration, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, performed Hajj other than that Hajj which he performed from al-Madinah.
