Hadith 2701

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that (in the time of ignorance) a woman would perform tawaf naked and would say, "Today some part of the body will be exposed or the whole of it will be naked, so whatever part is exposed, I do not make it lawful for anyone to look at it." Then this verse was revealed: « يَا بَنِي آدَمَ خُذُوا زِينَتَكُمْ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ » [ سورة الأعراف : 31 ] "O children of Adam, take your adornment at every time of prayer."
And the evidence that wearing clothes is an adornment for those who wear them and for covering the private parts, even if the clothes are not decorated with dye, nor are they luxurious garments, is that Allah—Mighty and Majestic—said in His decisive revelation: “Take your adornment at every mosque” [‏الْأَعْرَافِ‏:‏ 31‏]. And by this command, He did not mean wearing clothes decorated with dye and embroidery, nor wearing luxurious garments, but rather He intended wearing clothes that cover the private parts, whether they are luxurious or humble, as the verse was revealed as a rebuke for what the people of ignorance used to do of circumambulating the House naked, not covering their private parts with clothes.
