Hadith 989

Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when people mentioned negligence due to sleep, he said: "The companions slept until the sun had risen, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'There is no negligence in sleep; indeed, negligence is only in wakefulness. Therefore, if any one of you forgets a prayer or sleeps through it, he should offer it when he remembers it, or on the next day at its time.'"

Abdullah bin Rabah says that when Sayyiduna Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) heard me narrating this hadith, he said: "O young man, narrate the hadith with reflection, for I was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." But he did not reject anything from this hadith.
