Hadith 93

This is also evidence that the words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), "Nothing makes water impure," are general in wording but specific in meaning. As I have stated earlier, what he meant was the water that is two pitchers or more.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "None of you should perform ghusl (ritual bath) in standing water while he is in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity)." Someone asked, "O Abu Hurairah, then how should he (perform ghusl)?" He replied, "He should take water from it (and sit outside to perform ghusl)."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Farooq Rafi
Benefits:

➊ It is prohibited to perform ritual bath (ghusl) in standing water while in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah). Rather, a person in a state of janabah should take water and move to one side of the water to perform the ritual bath. This is because if there are impurities such as traces of janabah or other filth on his body, and they fall into an amount of water less than two large containers, the water will immediately become impure, and purification cannot be attained with such water. Therefore, performing the ritual bath in this manner would be futile.

➋ It is permissible for a person in a state of janabah to immerse himself or stand and perform ritual bath in running water.
