Hadith 899

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that on the day of the Battle of Badr, among us only Sayyiduna Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) was a horseman (he had a horse), and I saw my companions that all of them were asleep except the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he (peace be upon him) was praying under a tree and weeping profusely until morning came. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that (the evidence for this) is also the incident of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to lead the people in prayer, it was said to him (O Messenger of Allah), indeed he is a very soft-hearted person and weeps a lot while reciting the Qur’an (so you should order another companion to lead the prayer).
