Hazrat Amir (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that I asked Hazrat Alqamah (may Allah have mercy on him), "Was Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the night of the meeting with the jinn?" So Hazrat Alqamah (may Allah have mercy on him) replied that I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and I said, "Was any one of you present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the night of the meeting with the jinn?" He replied, "No, but one night we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and we found him missing. We searched for him in the valleys and mountain passes (but did not find him), so we said (among ourselves) that the jinn have abducted him or he has been killed by deception. He says, 'We spent the worst night that any people could spend.' Then, when morning came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appeared coming from the direction of Hira. We said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we found you missing, so we searched for you everywhere but could not find you, and we spent a night such as no people have spent.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'A messenger from the jinn came to me, so I went with him and recited the Noble Qur'an to them.'" Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took us to their encampment and showed us their (extinguished) fire. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that they asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about their food, so he said, "Your food is every bone over which Allah's name has been mentioned; as soon as it comes into your hands, it will be full of meat. And every dung is fodder for your animals." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not use these two, bones and dung, for istinja (purification), for they are the food of your brothers." This is the narration of 'Abdul A'la. In the narration of Ibn Abi Za'idah, it is stated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not use bones and dung for istinja, for they are the food of your brothers from among the jinn."
