Hadith 789

And the evidence that the one who does that is among the worst of people, and in this wording there is an indication that his, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: «أَيْنَ مَا أَدْرَكَتْكَ الصَّلَاةُ فَصَلِّ فَهُوَ مَسْجِدٌ» and his saying: «جُعِلَتْ لَنَا الْأَرْضُ كُلُّهَا مَسْجِدًا» is a general wording whose intended meaning is specific, as I have mentioned. And this is of the type which I have already explained in some of our books, that "all" may refer to "some" in the sense of partiality, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not intend by his saying: "The whole earth has been made a mosque for us" all of the lands; rather, he intended some of it, not all of it. For if he had intended all of it, then prayer in graveyards would be permissible, and it would be permissible to take graves as mosques, and prayer in the bathhouse and behind graves and in the camel pens—all of it—would be permissible. And in the Prophet’s, peace and blessings be upon him, forbidding prayer in this place is an indication of the correctness of what I have said.
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, among the worst and most evil of people are those whom the Hour will find alive, and those who take graves as places of prostration."
