(244) بَابُ التَّعَوُّذِ بَعْدَ السَّلَامِ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ.244 Chapter: Seeking Refuge after Salam from Prayer.
Hadith 746
نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْعِجْلِيُّ ، نا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ شَيْبَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلَكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، وَعَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ الأَزْدِيِّ ، قَالا : كَانَ سَعْدٌ يُعَلِّمُ بَنِيهِ هَؤُلاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُ الْمُكْتِبُ الْغِلْمَانَ ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَتَعَوَّذُ بِهِنَّ دُبُرَ الصَّلاةِ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبُخْلِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْجُبْنِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ أَنْ أُرَدَّ إِلَى أَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الدُّنْيَا ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ "
Hazrat Mus'ab bin Sa'd and Amr bin Maymun Azdi both narrate that Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) used to teach these words of supplication to his children just as a teacher teaches his students. He used to say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek Allah's protection with these words after prayer « اللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ البُخْلِ، وَأَعوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الجُبْنِ، وَأعُوذُ بِكَ أنْ أُرَدَّ إِلَى أَرْذَلِ العُمُرِ، وَأعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الدُّنْيَا، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ القَبْرِ » "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from miserliness and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice, and I seek refuge in You from being returned to a worthless old age, I seek refuge in You from the trials of this world, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave."
