Sayyiduna Wa'il bin Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I came to Madinah Munawwarah, so I said (in my heart) that I will definitely observe the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) carefully. So I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he started the prayer, he said « اللهُ أَكْبَرُ » and raised both his hands, so I saw the thumbs of both his hands at the level of his ears. Then he narrated some more of the hadith and said that then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed and prostrated, so his blessed head was between his hands to the same extent as it was when he started the prayer (i.e., at the level of the ears).
