Hazrat Na’eem bin Abdullah al-Mujmir narrates that I prayed on top of this mosque with Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), so he recited « إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انشَقَّتْ » [ سورة الإنشقاق ] and performed sajdah (prostration) at the verse of sajdah. (After completing the prayer, he said:) I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performing sajdah on this. (The Imam says:) I have mentioned the chains of this hadith in the Book of Salah of Kitab al-Kabir, in which the narrator has reported from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performing sajdah in this surah, or I performed sajdah with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in « إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انشَقَّتْ » [ سورة الإنشقاق ]. “Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and accepted Islam several years after the Hijrah. In the narration of ‘Iraq bin Malik, it is mentioned that Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to Madinah Munawwarah while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in Khaybar, and he had appointed Siba’ bin ‘Arfatah as his deputy in Madinah Munawwarah. Sayyiduna bin Abi Hazim says: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: I spent three years in the blessed service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And he has stated that he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performing sajdah in Surah « إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انشَقَّتْ » [ سورة الإنشقاق ] and « اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ » [ سورة العلق ]. I have mentioned in many places in my books that indeed, the informer and witness whose testimony and report must be accepted is the one who informs of the occurrence of something or testifies to seeing or hearing something, not the one who negates or denies the occurrence of something. And the one who says, “So-and-so did not do this act,” such a person is neither an informer nor a witness. Undoubtedly, a witness is the one who testifies and says, “I saw so-and-so doing such and such, I heard him saying such and such.” And this matter is not hidden from a person of knowledge and understanding. I have mentioned this issue in several places in my books. And some people of little knowledge have been confused by the narration of Harith bin ‘Ubaid, which is reported from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform sajdah in the Mufassal surahs after migrating to Madinah Munawwarah. They think this is evidence for those who assume that there is no sajdah in the Mufassal surahs. And this is of the same kind as what I have explained: that the one whose testimony is accepted is the one who testifies to seeing or hearing something, not the one who denies or rejects it. And Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) has stated that he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performing sajdah in Surah « إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انشَقَّتْ » [ سورة الإنشقاق ] and « اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ » [ سورة العلق ] after the migration to Madinah, because he accompanied the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after the migration to Madinah, not before the migration.
