(104) بَابُ الْقِرَاءَةِ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ فِي الْأُولَيَيْنِ مِنْهُمَا بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَةٍ، وَفِي الْأُخْرَيَيْنِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِChapter 104: Reciting Al-Fatihah and a surah in the first two rak‘ahs of Dhuhr and Asr, and only Al-Fatihah in the last two
Hadith 504
قَالَ : كَذَلِكَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ الْمَكِّيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُصَلِّي بِنَا الظُّهْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ ، فَيَقْرَأُ فِي الأُولَيَيْنِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَةٍ مَعَهَا ، وَفِي الأُخْرَيَيْنِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ ، وَكَانَ يُطَوِّلُ فِي الأُولَى ، وَيُسْمِعُنَا الآيَةَ أَحْيَانًا "
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah narrates from his noble father, Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to lead us in the Zuhr and Asr prayers, and in the first two rak‘ahs he would recite Surah Al-Fatihah along with another surah. In the last two rak‘ahs, he would recite only Surah Al-Fatihah. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make the first rak‘ah long, and sometimes he would let us hear one or two verses.
