It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Shall I not tell you of a deed by which Allah erases sins and raises ranks?" The noble Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, said: "Why not, O Messenger of Allah, (please do tell us)." He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Performing ablution thoroughly despite hardship and difficulty, taking many steps towards the mosques (i.e., coming to the mosque for prayer even if it is far), and waiting for one prayer after another prayer—this is your jihad, this is your jihad." Both times, « فَذَالِكُم’الرِّبَاطَ » he said, "This is your jihad." In the narration of (the narrator of the hadith) Ali bin Hujr, « فَذَالِكُم’الرِّبَاطَ » it is mentioned once. In the narration of Yunus bin Abdul A'la, instead of « الا ادلكم » there is « اخبركم », "Shall I not inform you of such a deed." And in the narration of the noble Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, « بلىٰ » the words "Why not" (please do tell us) are not mentioned.
