Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears an oath and in his oath says, 'By al-Lat,' he should say « لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا الله » 'There is no deity except Allah.' And whoever says to his companion, 'Come, let us gamble,' he should give something in charity." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not command the one who swore by al-Lat or the one who invited his companion to gamble to perform a new ablution. Therefore, this hadith is evidence that foul speech and abusive language do not make ablution obligatory, contrary to the statement of the one who says that abusive language makes ablution obligatory.
