(70) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ الشَّطْرَ فِي هَذَا الْمَوْضِعِ الْقِبَلُ لَا النِّصْفُ،Chapter 70: Evidence that "shatr" here means "direction", not "half"
Hadith 438
نا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو وَهُوَ ابْنُ دِينَارٍ قَالَ قَرَأَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: " أَنُلْزِمُكُمُوهَا مِنْ شَطْرِ أَنْفُسِنَا: مِنْ تِلْقَاءِ أَنْفُسِنَا " قَدْ خَرَّجْتُ هَذَا الْبَابَ بِتَمَامِهِ فِي كِتَابِ التَّفْسِيرِ
Hazrat Amr bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) recited (this verse) in this way: "Can we compel you to this matter from our side?" I have explained this aspect in detail in the Book of Tafsir.
