جماع أبواب الأذان والإقامةChapters on Adhan and Iqamah
(67) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الصَّلَاةِ كَانَتْ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ قَبْلَ هِجْرَةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، إِذِ الْقِبْلَةُ فِي ذَلِكَ الْوَقْتِ بَيْتُ الْمَقْدِسِ لَا الْكَعْبَةُChapter 67: Prayer was towards Jerusalem before the Prophet’s migration, as the qiblah then was Jerusalem, not the Ka‘bah
Hadith 428
نا أَبُو مُوسَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ ، يَقُولُ : " صَلَّيْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ أَوْ سَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ شَهْرًا ، ثُمَّ صُرِفْنَا نَحْوَ الْكَعْبَةِ "
Hazrat Abu Ishaq says that I heard Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) saying, he said: We prayed facing Bayt al-Maqdis for sixteen or seventeen months in the company of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then we were turned towards the Ka'bah.
