It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever hears the mu’adhdhin giving the adhan, then turns towards him and says: « أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُهُ اللہ، رَضِيتُ بِاللَّهِ رَبًّا، وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَسُولًا وَ بِالْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا » ‘I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, and indeed Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah. I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as a Messenger,’ then his past sins will be forgiven.”
