Hadith 299
نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُزَيْرٍ الأَيْلِيُّ ، أَنَّ سَلامَةَ بْنَ رَوْحٍ حَدَّثَهُمْ ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ، أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَخْبَرَتْهُ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَصْبَحَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَهُوَ وَاجِمٌ يُنْكَرُ مَا يُرَى مِنْهُ ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَمَّا أَنْكَرْتُ مِنْهُ ، فَقَالَ لَهَا : " وَعَدَنِي جِبْرِيلُ أَنْ يَلْقَانِي اللَّيْلَةَ ، فَلَمْ أَرَهُ ، أَمَا وَاللَّهِ مَا أَخْلَفَنِي " ، قَالَتْ مَيْمُونَةُ : " وَكَانَ فِي بَيْتِي جَرْوٌ كَلْبٌ تَحْتَ نَضَدٍ لَنَا ، فَأَخْرَجَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ نَضَحَ مَكَانَهُ بِالْمَاءِ بِيَدِهِ " ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ اللَّيْلُ لَقِيَهُ جِبْرِيلُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَعَدْتَنِي , ثُمَّ لَمْ أَرَكَ ؟ فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّا لا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ صُورَةٌ وَلا كَلْبٌ "
It is narrated from the noble wife of the Prophet, Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) one day woke up in the morning in a state of sadness and grief, which was unusual for him. I asked him about the reason for this unusual state, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibril (peace be upon him) had promised to meet me last night, but I did not see him. By Allah, he has never broken a promise." Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that there was a small puppy sitting under the bed in my house, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had it taken out, and then he sprinkled water with his own hand on that spot. Then, when night came, Jibril (peace be upon him) met him (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You had promised to meet me, but I did not see you. (What was the reason for this?)" So Jibril (peace be upon him) said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, we do not enter a house in which there is a picture or a dog."
