(314) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ لَا حَظْرَ فِي إِخْبَارِ جَابِرٍ: نَحَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْبَدَنَةَ عَنْ سَبْعَةٍ أَنْ لَا تُجْزِئُ الْبَدَنَةُ عَنْ أَكْثَرِ مِنْ سَبْعَةٍ.Evidence that, according to Jabir’s narration, a camel cannot be shared by more than seven people for sacrifice.

وَهَذَا مِنَ الْجِنْسِ الَّذِي كُنْتُ أَعْلَمْتُ فِي غَيْرِ مَوْضِعٍ مِنْ كُتُبِنَا أَنَّ الْعَرَبَ قَدْ تَذْكُرُ عَدَدَ الشَّيْءِ لَا تُرِيدُ نَفْيًا لِمَا زَادَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ الْعَدَدِ.
This issue is of the same type which I have mentioned in several places in my books, that the Arabs sometimes mention a single number of something, but by that number they do not intend to negate more than that.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ ، وَمَرْوَانَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ ، أَنَّهُمَا حَدَّثَاهُ قَالا: " خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَامَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ يُرِيدُ زِيَارَةَ الْبَيْتِ لا يُرِيدُ قِتَالا ، وَسَاقَ مَعَهُ الْهَدْيَ سَبْعِينَ بَدَنَةً ، وَكَانَ النَّاسُ سَبْعَمِائَةِ رَجُلٍ ، فَكَانَتْ كُلُّ بَدَنَةٍ عَنْ عَشَرَةِ نَفَرٍ " . قَالَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: فَحَدَّثَنِي الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ: " كُنَّا أَصْحَابُ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ مِائَةً " .
Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhramah رضي الله عنه and Marwan bin Hakam رضي الله عنه narrate that the Messenger of Allah set out in the year of Hudaybiyyah to visit the Sacred House (for Umrah), and he did not intend to fight. He took seventy camels with him for sacrifice, and the number of people was seven hundred, thus each camel was for ten people as a sacrifice. In the narration of Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه, it is mentioned that the number of Companions who participated in Hudaybiyyah was fourteen hundred.
