Hadith 2863

Imam Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the practice of walking fast was started by the villagers. They would stand around people, having hung their provisions, sticks, and bowls, etc. Then when they would return, their utensils and belongings would collide and make noise. I also set out to return with the people, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was seen in such a state that the bones behind the ears of his she-camel were touching the back of her neck (because he had pulled the rein tightly), and he was saying: "O people, walk calmly. O people, walk with peace and tranquility." Sometimes Imam Ata narrated this tradition from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
