Hadith 2845

And the clarification is that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would only proceed at the pace of tranquility during the time when he did not find an opening, as he explicitly stated regarding the presence of an opening in the movement at the time of departure from Arafah. And in this report, it is clear that Usama ibn Zayd meant by his statement: "I did not see his she-camel raising its hand until we reached Jam‘,"—that is, in the crowd, not during the time when he found an opening—for Usama is the one who reported that he explicitly stated so when he found the opening.

Hisham bin Urwah narrates that I heard from my esteemed father, he says that I heard Sayyiduna Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was sitting with me. And Sayyiduna Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) was riding behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the return from Arafat. Hazrat Urwah asked, "How did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ride on the return from Arafat?" Sayyiduna Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "He rode at a moderate pace, but when he found an open space, he would make the she-camel go faster." Imam Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) says that "nas‘ al-‘unuq" refers to running faster. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that in his narration, the words are mentioned that "nas‘ al-‘unuq" refers to a pace faster than walking. And in the narration of Waki‘, it is mentioned that he would ride at a pace faster than "‘unuq."
