It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when we enter into the state of Ihram, which clothes should we wear?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not wear shirts, trousers, coats with caps, turbans, caps, or socks. However, if someone does not find shoes, he may wear socks, but he should wear them after cutting them below the ankles." In the narration of Hammad from Ayub, the same words are mentioned: that he should wear them after cutting them below the ankles. Similarly, Ibn ‘Ulayyah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Ayub’s chain, in the narration of Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever does not find shoes should wear socks after cutting them below the ankles." The Imam has mentioned in the narration of Ibn Jurayj these words: "Then that person should cut the socks below the ankles and wear them." I have mentioned the routes of this hadith in Kitab al-Kabir.
