Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for Hajj in the year of the Farewell Pilgrimage, and with him was his noble wife, Sayyidah Asma bint Umais bin Khath’am (may Allah be pleased with her) as well. Then, when they were at Shajarah (that is, Dhu’l-Hulayfah), Sayyidah Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) gave birth to Muhammad bin Abu Bakr. So Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) presented himself to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and informed him of this matter. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) instructed Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to order Sayyidah Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) to perform ghusl (ritual bath), then to recite the talbiyah for Hajj, and to perform all the rites as the other pilgrims do, but she should not perform the tawaf of the House (Ka’bah).
