Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyiduna Najiyah al-Khuza'i (may Allah be pleased with him) told me. He used to take the sacrificial camels of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to Makkah Mukarramah. He asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) what he should do if any of his sacrificial camels became exhausted. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) instructed me that for every exhausted camel, I should slaughter it and dip its shoe in its blood and leave it, so that needy people may eat its meat. In the narration of Janab Waki', it is mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Slaughter that camel and dip its shoe in its blood and strike it on its side (so that people may recognize it and eat its meat)."
